Ellie Richards is a furniture designer and sculptor with a keen focus on the profound interplay between furniture and domestic objects. Drawing inspiration from traditional woodworking, furniture, and sculpture her work has garnered critical acclaim and found prestigious placement in notable exhibitions, including esteemed venues such as the Mint Museum, Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design, SOFA Chicago, and the Society of Contemporary Craft. Ellie has received prestigious Windgate residencies at the esteemed Center for Art in Wood, San Diego State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, underscoring her prominence in the realm of wood/furniture design.
Ellie is an ardent educator, sharing her expertise with diverse audiences. Her distinguished teaching engagements span prominent institutions, including Yestermorrow Design/Build School, Appalachian Center for Craft, and Haystack Mountain School of Craft. Presently, she serves as a resident artist at Penland School of Craft, a role she has held from 2020 to 2023, further enriching her artistic journey.
